How can I join the library?
Everyone is welcome to use our Libraries. To borrow items all you need to do is become a member. Just pop into one of our libraries with identification and proof of your current address and fill in a membership form. Alternatively, you can join online, then come into the library with your proof of current address to collect your card. You can borrow the same day.

How can I renew my items?
You can come into one of our libraries with your library card and renew your items or you can renew items over the phone. Just call (02) 4429 3705 and have your library card number ready. You are also able to renew your items online through the library catalogue, using the Member Services section to sign in with your membership number located on your library card.

Can I use the Internet?
All our branches, excluding the mobile library, have public access computers available for use. There is no cost if you are a member of a Shoalhaven or Kiama library. Computers can be booked in advance by coming into the library, phoning (02) 4429 3700 or booking online.

How many items can I borrow?
You can borrow up to 20 items using a combination of fiction, non-fiction, magazines, 6 CDs, 6 DVDs, 6 audiobooks and playaways, and 12 puzzles.

There is a limit of 3 items on the same subject and/or by the same author. There may be some variation for adult and junior members at our smaller branches. Please ask our staff.

How long can I borrow for?
The borrowing period for most items is 28 days. You will need to bring your library card to borrow items. Bestsellers and items in demand are encouraged to be returned within 2 weeks. Please take care of items borrowed and return them promptly. If items are overdue, borrowing privileges can be withdrawn until all items are returned.

Can I volunteer at the library?
Shoalhaven Libraries gladly accept volunteers on a needs basis. Volunteer duties include shelving books, covering books and data entry. Please contact Council's Training Unit on (02) 4429 3111.

Can I donate items to the library?
Shoalhaven Libraries accepts donations that are in as new condition, have current content, increase the depth and range of the library's collections and comply with Shoalhaven Libraries Collection Development Policy. (PDF 259kb)

Many books offered to Shoalhaven Libraries as donations are already owned by the library and are therefore not suited to the library's existing collections or do not comply with the Collection Development Policy. To check if an item is already held, please check the library catalogue. If you are unable to check the library catalogue, please contact our Collection Resources Services on 4429 3705.

How can I get a book if the library doesn't have it?
If you can’t find what you’re looking for please ask one of our staff to help. We are able to borrow items from other libraries within Australia and New Zealand for a fee. See our Order a Book page for more information.

Can someone help me with my assignment?
If you can’t find what you’re looking for or need help just ask one of the library staff to help. We offer help with assignments and research. You can come into one of our libraries, call us on (02) 4429 3705 or send an e-mail.

What can I do if I have lost an item?
If you have lost an item please contact the library. Lost or damaged items must be paid for.
