For the first time, acclaimed music biographer Jeff Apter reveals the true story of Lee Gordon, the trailblazing promoter who transformed Australia's entertainment industry.
Post-war Australia saw Gordon as either a crass Yank or a visionary mentor. Without him, names like Michael Gudinski, Harry M. Miller, and Michael Chugg would mean little. Gordon brought international stars like Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Buddy Holly to Australia, opened the first drive-in restaurant, and introduced Roller Derby. He also ran discotheques and strip clubs, changing the country's culture forever. Gordon lived fast, spent big, and predicted his own early death, which came mysteriously in London at age 40.
