How to join Shoalhaven Libraries

Whether you join online or in person, you’ll need to present staff with identification that shows your current Shoalhaven address before you receive your new library card.

Can kids join, too?

Of course! Young people and children under 16 will need the permission of their parent or guardian. Parents and guardians will need to present identification showing their current Shoalhaven address, too.

Library members can:

  • borrow items
  • use the library’s computers and printing facilities
  • access the Digital Library

Only interested in digital resources? Become a digital member!

Join online any time of day to get access to our Digital Library, which includes eBook and eAudiobook subscriptions, movie streaming services, online newspapers, and study resources. Read, watch, stream, listen and study anytime, anywhere, without stepping foot in the library!

Building Brighter Babies

Just had a bub? Your newborn can become a library member and receive a library bag with a free book to keep, as well as information about reading to children, digital resources for little ones and our free children's events and programs.

Junior Readers Rewards Program

This program is for Junior Shoalhaven Libraries members and participants must have their own library card. Once they have signed up to the program, participants will receive a Junior Reader Rewards card. Every time a child visits a Shoalhaven Libraries branch their card will be stamped. After 10 stamps they will receive a prize (prizes may differ between library branches).

Reciprocal and temporary memberships

Here for work or a holiday? Become a reciprocal or temporary member.

Reciprocal Memberships

Reciprocal borrowing is an arrangement between libraries that allows library members to borrow items from libraries other than their own. If you’re a member of a library in your local area, you are eligible for this membership at other libraries in NSW and Australia.

To join as a reciprocal member, you’ll need to:

  • be a member of your local public library
  • have your local library card with you when you visit Shoalhaven Libraries
  • have identification with you

Don’t have your local library card with you? You’ll need to join as a temporary member.

Temporary Memberships

People visiting the Shoalhaven for work or a holiday are eligible to join the library if they pay a temporary deposit of $50.00 (refundable once all borrowed items are returned) and present identification to library staff.
