Discover the magic of your own backyard—one bird at a time!

Join BirdLife Shoalhaven for an inspiring session that brings together nature lovers, curious minds, and budding birdwatchers! Learn how you can take part in the Great Aussie Bird Count—Australia’s largest annual citizen science event—and make a real difference for our feathered friends.

From October 20–26, 2025, thousands of Australians will spend just 20 minutes observing and recording the birds around them. Whether you're in your backyard, a local park, or even looking out your office window, your observations help build a national snapshot of bird populations. This data is vital for conservation efforts, helping scientists track changes in bird numbers and protect habitats under threat from climate change, urban development, and invasive species.

BirdLife Shoalhaven will guide you through:

  • How to participate in the Aussie Bird Count using the free app or web form
  • Why your observations matter—even if you're a beginner!
  • Tips for identifying local birds, including favourites like the Superb Fairy-wren, Rainbow Lorikeet, and Eastern Rosella

This is a fun, family-friendly way to connect with nature, contribute to science, and discover the incredible birdlife right on your doorstep.

Be part of something bigger. Help protect Australia’s birds—one count at a time.
