In Her Words - a beautiful collaboration

In Her Words, held in celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, was a wonderful example of what happens when community, creativity and collaboration come together. 

Hosted by Shoalhaven Libraries and held at the beautiful Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre, the day welcomed over 150 community members who gathered to honour women, storytelling and local talent.

Our panel featured six exceptional authors — Hayley Scrivenor, Cath McKinnon, Karina May, Claudine Tinellis, Aunty Barb Nicholson and Camille Booker, each bringing their unique voice and insight to a warm, engaging and joy-filled conversation. 

Events like this strengthen social connection, celebrate literature, and provide a rare opportunity for the community to meet and learn from local creatives. 

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with attendees sharing comments such as: 
 

• “Events like this… are beyond their weight in gold. The gift of words is something for everyone to share.” 

• “Absolutely loved it — a truly special event I’d love to attend every year.” 

• “Congratulations on a magical event! The love and joy in the room was palpable.”

There is strong hope for In Her Words to become an annual celebration.
